Delivery of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services provides support for the Department’s educational outcomes by developing initiatives and technical support strategies to ensure all 800 Western Australian public schools can be individual, distinctive and responsive to their local communities while still benefiting from being part of a system.
The ICT Operations and Customer Service Directorate is part of the ICT Division and is the primary entry point to ICT for any responses to operational issues, requests or problems customers of ICT may have. As the highest frequency contact point for customers in many respects it is the ‘face’ of ICT.
The ICT Cyber Security, Security Operations Centre (SOC)
supports the Department with the ongoing development, implementation and maintenance of information systems risk and security controls to protect the assets of the Western Australian Department of Education. In an environment of constraint, ensures that resources including financial, physical, technological and information requirements are efficiently applied to maintain a high level of products/service delivery.
The Role
We are looking for highly motivated and inquisitive Cyber Security Specialists to apply current working knowledge of the artefacts relevant in attack scenarios and how to obtain relevant evidence to ensure our risk assessment methodologies continue to align with evolving cyber security landscapes.
The Cyber Security Specialist – Operations will perform threat identification, management, and modelling, as well as enhance the alerting and monitoring of the Department’s services and applications. This means having the ability to develop and maintain whole of Department threat intelligence capabilities,
validate incident findings and clearly communicate identified control gaps and detected adversary activity to the appropriate teams.
As the Cyber Security Specialist – Operations, being able to manage the daily operation of our Security Operations Centre (SOC) and coordinate the performance of incident identification, assessment, quantification, reporting, communication, mitigation and monitoring tasks is essential. In addition, you will be proactive in providing timely advice to the Cyber Security Manager and stakeholders in relation to cyber security threats, incidents and mitigations, while leading and motivating staff in the development and achievement of the SOC business goals.

Eligibility

- Demonstrated extensive experience and knowledge of information technology and cyber security, including principles, concepts and current trends with specific knowledge and experience relevant to large corporate or government environments using on-premises and cloud-based technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in the operation and management of a Security Operations Centre.
- Demonstrated experience managing a Microsoft Sentinel SIEM, ideally at enterprise scale.
- Demonstrated experience with Cyber Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunting, Detection Engineering, Threat Intelligence Platforms and Security Incident Response.
- High level knowledge of Australian Government policies and frameworks, in particular, the ACSC’s Essentials Eight, NIST CSF and ASD’s ISM.
- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively liaise with key internal and external stakeholders at a senior level, and to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and the ability to proactively manage own workload and tasks to deliver outcomes as part of a small, dynamic team.
