The NSW SES is seeking motivated and community-focused individuals to join our Community Capability Team. As a Community Capability Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting disaster resilience across NSW by building strong connections with local communities and stakeholders. You will lead and support initiatives that prepare communities for floods, storms and tsunamis, while also supporting our dedicated SES volunteers in their community engagement efforts.
As the Community Capability Officer some your daily tasks will include:
Developing and maintaining networks with community organisations and Emergency Service partnersWorking collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver effective public preparedness campaignsSupporting volunteers to work alongside their communities to reduce their risk and be more resilient through community engagement Locations for this position:
Wagga Wagga - OngoingMetford - to 31 May 2026 Before, during and after emergency events the team members work in a variety of Incident Management Team (IMT) roles predominantly focused on the Public Information Unit function. The successful candidates will be provided training in AIIMS which is the agency’s emergency management framework, along with coaching and mentoring to ensure support is provided when performing in these functions.
As this role will visit communities and other stakeholders across the Zone, at times, there can be travel involved and work outside of standard business hours.

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities.

About You
To be successful in this role you will:
Have a passion for working with and empowering communitiesBe proficient in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders,



and be able to communicate with a wide range of external and internal partners as well as the ability to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to work on a common goalHave experience in the development and implementation of innovative community programsBe a confident and clear communicator within public information, risk awareness and deeper community engagement campaignsBe willing to travel to promote and support the delivery of community programsHave a thorough knowledge of AIIMS principles and processes, and/or willingness to obtain competence within 12 monthsBe a self-driven, motivated achiever who can work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds with varying levels of education and work experience.
