Wilderness School is a non-denominational girl’s school educating students from Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. Since 1884, Wilderness School has prepared girls to be adventurous, courageous, responsible and respectful learners and leaders. The legacy of our Founders, the Misses Brown, continues today and is a rich and integral part of our School culture.


The primary function of the position of Chef/ Cook is to create healthy meals for our students (aged 3-18 years), as well as for staff and parents. The School prides itself on using fantastic local produce with a 'from scratch' approach.

This role includes the responsibility for menu planning and the preparation of a variety of fresh and nutritious meals for our Boarding House students as well as working within the School Café. The Café also prides itself on event catering and offering unique menus and service for special occasions.

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified and experienced chef and proven ability of working well within a busy team environment. You will be able to work independently and competently in all areas of a full commercial kitchen. You will have a passion for fresh, local produce and for creating culturally diverse and interesting dishes.

This position is a casual position and may include some rostered weekend work. Shifts available for roster include day shifts starting at 7am and afternoon shifts finishing at 7pm, Monday to Sunday.

To be considered for this role, you will have:

• Extensive experience working in a commercial kitchen and be able to demonstrate a high standard and application of food hygiene principles;

• Ability to fulfil the menu requirements for Boarding House students;

• To be flexible and work independently and within a team;

• Exceptional communication skills with both adults and young people;

• Efficient at completing tasks in a timely professional manner;

• Ability to respond appropriately to student behaviour and maintain respectful relationships;

• A genuine passion for working in this environment;

• Willing to provide a warm greeting and enthusiastic service to all staff, students and guests of the Café;

• Availability to work day and afternoon shifts, including some weekend work.
