Position Summary:

Our successful Authorised Officers will have great interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals in the community with unique backgrounds and skills. You will be a great team player but able to work independently and manage priorities to get the job done successfully. You will be detail oriented and experienced in managing and documenting information.

You will have experience in a similar field operations or service role in high risk or related industries and/or regional areas.

You might have worked previously in a law enforcement or regulatory role such as armed forces, police, or inspectors. You will be able to demonstrate respect and empathy for individuals required to comply with COVID-19 restriction guidelines.

The role of all Authorised Officers involves:

- Administration of, and ensuring compliance with, the Directions issued by the Chief Health Officer, pursuant to s200 of the Public Health and Well Being Act 2008.

- If required, working with Victoria Police to undertake education and enforcement activities for alleged breaches of the Deputy Chief Health Officer or the Chief Health Officer Directions

In addition to these mandatory obligations, Authorised Officers must:

- Act compatibly with, and consider the Charter of Human Rights

- Work collaboratively with managers, team members and other department staff to support the shared objectives of Department of Health and the Compliance and Enforcement Branch.

- Facilitate any reasonable requests for communication

- Make every effort to assist a person to comply

These roles will be appointed at VPS Level 4 and provided with support from senior staff to undertake their duties as well a range of employee supports available.

Successful individuals will be required to undertake training immediately and be available to work on a rotating 7-day roster following commencement.


- Prepare operations and practice initiatives to meet the strategic directions for managing and delivering high quality services.

- Attend appropriately to each individual enquiry by taking a helpful approach, establishing its purpose, assessing the service required and providing the appropriate response.

- Communicate effectively and positively to deliver a high quality service to the community, internal and external stakeholders by maintaining a welcoming and professional manner and providing information or referral to the relevant subject matter expert.

- Contribute detailed advice, recommendations and program options and solutions to complex and sensitive issues.

- Interpret and support the implementation and delivery of practical and policy initiatives.

- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.

- Providing information and observing individual's requirements to isolate and how and where to seek additional services and support.

- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.

Essential Information:

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its workers and clients. The department may require its employees to be fully vaccinated against preventable diseases such as Influenza, coronavirus (COVID-19) and other transmissible diseases based on Victorian Chief Health Officer's Directions as issued and updated from time to time. Vaccination requirements may differ from role to role based on their risk category and duties performed. The department's policy outlines the risk categories and requirements for employees working for the department. Where relevant, proof of immunisation status may be required.
