Job description:

Job Title: Technical Manager

Level: HOD/Operations management

Reports to: General Manager

Overview of Role:

The role has accountability for the optimisation of the process plant unit operations including, metallurgical control, met-accounting and reporting, process control philosophies and the geo-metallurgy program; and enganging, managing and driving the performance of the process technical team and relevant external experts to ensure operational excellence and effectiveness.


 Maintain a safe and efficient work environment;

 Develop a full geometallurgy program for the entire resource to ensure effective beneficiation i.e.

maximize efficiencies and metal recoveries and optimal hydrometallurgy results;

 Review plant design for debottlenecking and efficiency/operability improvement and initiate, with detailed financial justification, related capital projects;

 Evaluating process performance to identify and initiate development opportunities;

 Develop and maintain the metal accounting system for the Mine (Mine to Product);

 Metal sales reconciliation and resolution of queries from offtakers.

 Report on plant activities and performance indicators;

 Provide technical support to the operations team on a daily basis to ensure objectives (throughput, efficiencies and costs) are met and that any impediments to meeting these are resolved in a timely manner;

 Monitor and analyze key metallurgical performance indicators of process operations and recommend corrective actions to the operations team;

 Manage metallurgical and chemical engineering activities working with the operations team, maintenance team and, when required, external consultants.

 Oversee and manage all metallurgical and laboratory personnel.


Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy/Mineral Processing/Chemical Engineering or other relevant field of study. A postgraduate qualification in business, finance, engineering, chemistry is preferred although not mandatory.


 Minimum of 15 years of mineral processing and hydrometallurgy experience, including a minimum of 5 years at senior management level.

 Extensive experience in R&D;, engineering process design and optimization of laterite beneficiation and hydrometallurgy circuits for production of nickel from lateritic ores;

 Proven operations management, cost analysis/modelling and budgeting experience;


 Commitment to FQML HSE Policies and the relevant Australian regulations.

 Good leadership, delegation and motivational skills to supervise technical research, direct and train metallurgical engineers and technicians.

 Advanced cognitive and analytical skills with excellent ability to carry out advanced calculations and analyze and understand highly complex and statistical metallurgical and financial data.

 Strong understanding of complex metallurgical information, process improvement and control strategies.

 Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and able to assemble data and provide clear and accurate operational performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.

 Computer fluency is essential.
