About the Job



The Geospatial Intelligence Analyst (Geospatial Technician) is a soldier in the Australian Intelligence Corps (Aust Int). The role of Aust Int is to support the military decision making processes at the tactical, operational and strategic level.



The primary role of a Geospatial Technician is the provision of mapping intelligence to the commander.

Critical quick-thinking coupled with a solid foundation in the use of mapping software is essential to create visually appealing maps and geospatial intelligence. An understanding of weapon systems, meteorology, statistics, terrorism and human demographics enhance the technicians’ skills.



Where and who we work with



The Geospatial Intelligence Analyst serves in units and headquarters throughout Australia at the tactical, operational and strategic level, usually as part of a small team. You will also find the Geospatial Intelligence Analyst in units or detachments that have specific requirements for geospatial support, including Special Forces units.



The Geospatial Intelligence Analyst’s main job functions include:

Manipulation and enhancement of geospatial data Provision of terrain analysis and 3D visualisation products Capture and exploitation of airborne imagery Management of geospatial datasets Provision of geospatial advice

Further education and professional development is provided throughout the career of a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst. Imagery Analysis, Imagery capture and exploitation, advanced computing and leadership courses may be offered as technicians’ progress through their career.

On completion of initial military training and initial employment training you could earn a salary worth at least:



$75,625 p.a.



Salary is based on Other Ranks - Non Technical entry. It does not include additional allowances or deductions for tax, meals and accommodation.
