The Department of Communities and Justice delivers legal, court and supervision services to the people of NSW by managing courts and justice services, implementing programs to reduce crime and re offending, managing custodial and community-based correctional services, protecting rights and community standards and advising on law reform and legal matters.

Corrective Services NSW employs trade Overseers,

Senior Overseers and Managers in Corrective Services Industries (CSI) providing inmates in correctional centres with vocational training in service and commercial industries to improve their employment opportunities when they are released from custody. Employment is a proven factor in reducing the risk of re-offending.

About the Role

As a Trade Overseer, you will be overseeing the daily operation of an industrial unit whilst providing professional trade training and guidance to inmates. Reporting to the Senior Overseer, you are required to adhere to work plans and budgets given to achieve optimal commercial outcomes under tight time constraints.

This role also sees you involved in case managing inmates by putting them through work readiness program, in order that they may improve their work skills, enhance post-release employment prospects and contribute productively to Service/Business Unit objectives

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will need to demonstrate proven experience in Carpentry, Furniture, Upholstery or Autotrimming industry along with strong communication skills in order to manage inmates in running daily operation of an unit . Pattern making and modification skills are high desirable. You need to have a positive attitude, strong work ethics and integrity in line with CSI core values. To be successful in this role, you are also required to have generic computer skills and good time management skills.

In addition to the above you must meet the essential requirements set out below and be able to demonstrate capabilities to meet the key accountabilities and focus capabilities of the role.

Essential requirements

- Must hold one of the trade qualifications as set out below: Certificate III in Carpentry Certificate III in Furniture Making Certificate III in Autotrimming Certificate III in Upholstery

- Current Certificate III in Correctional Practice or capacity to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice in accordance with specified CSNSW timeframe

- Current driver licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role
