About Ouyen/Sea lake:

The town of Ouyen is located just over 100 km south of Mildura in the far north-west of Victoria. Ouyen is situated within the Mallee grain belt and sheep grazing land. Grain loading facilities and massive grain silos are a feature of the town, located along the railway line. The Big Mallee Root, located on the Calder Highway, is the largest Mallee stump in Australia and serves as a tribute to early settlers who cleared the land of drought-resistant eucalyptus trees to make way for agricultural activities.

The commercial centre of Ouyen is located in Oke Street and includes the council offices, a variety of shops, and the local history research centre, which houses a collection of books and historical records in the old court house.

Ouyen is located in the heart of the vast national parks of the Mallee region. To the south-west is the Wyperfield National Park with its network of lake beds. In the north-west is the Murray-Sunset National Park, characterized by its wide open landscapes and isolation. And to the north is the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park is 34 km to the north and borders the Murray River. With its wildlife, bush trails and springtime wildflower displays is a favoured destination for bird watchers, bush walkers and campers to admire a variety of native fauna and the extraordinary mallee fowl.

Sea Lake is situated on the southern shores of Lake Tyrrell a unique salt lake and is host to Mallee reptiles, kangaroos, emus, white-faced chats, and an inland gulley.

Sea Lake is in the heart of Australia’s “wheat belt”, and is the main township for a number of wheat farms in the region. Sea Lake is located in fairly close proximity to several major national parks, including Wyperfeld National Park and Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. To the south of Sea Lake lies the fresh water lake – Green Lake. This lake has served the surrounding communities well over the years for water sports recreation and swimmers, boating, windsurfing and water skiing and is generous in offering a feed of fresh fish or yabbies.

The small rural township has all the basic amenities and bakery, supermarket and cafes.
