Your role

We have a tremendous opportunity for an experienced and proactive actuary to join the Pricing and Capital Management team within the Business Performance function.

We're looking for someone on top of their game to provide quality actuarial advice to clients, external stakeholders and senior leaders across VMIA.

As a senior member of the actuarial team, reporting to the Head of Pricing and Capital Management, you'll take our strategic thinking into the future and influence in all directions.

You'll get to work with senior leaders across the business, particularly within the insurance operations (such as underwriting and claims). You'll play an active role in solving complex insurance problems for our clients and stakeholders, support the development and execution of VMIA's capital management strategies, including pricing, investment, and reinsurance strategies, deliver and enhance our core business activities, including pricing, portfolio monitoring, actuarial valuations and client deductible reviews and are expected to support the development of other team members.

Your key relationships

You work with the Insurance team and Claims team, particularly the Portfolio Managers to set client premiums and understand portfolio performance. You work with our external actuarial services provider to deliver half yearly actuarial valuations as well as any other external actuarial advice. You work with our Finance team on the corporate plan and financial reporting. You work with the Head of Pricing and Capital Management as well as other actuaries and analysts within the team, assisting with achieving the team's objectives. At times, your role will provide an opportunity to work with our clients, external stakeholders, Executive Leadership Team and the Board.

What we're looking for

You are a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia or equivalent At least 10 years' total experience in an actuarial role and proven expertise relevant to the general insurance or reinsurance industry A seasoned professional with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to positively engage and influence stakeholders, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience Demonstrated ability to develop and implement contemporary actuarial services, evaluate, and resolve complex financial problems through creative and strategic thinking and apply judgment where necessary, to successfully support strategic objectives Experience with successfully either leading, influencing, or coaching professional people across multiple organisational levels to develop their capability and achieve organisational objectives.
