The Big Picture:

Due to our current and future workload expectations, Howden Australia has an immediate need for a Fitter and Machinist, to be based in our recently established Perth Workshop.

The main focus of this role is to ensure new and aftermarket Howden products in the workshop and in the field are manufactured, overhauled, serviced and maintained to Howden standards and client requirements.

What needs to be done?

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:


- Conduct strip & assessment,

overhaul and repair works on various products to Howden standards.

- Complete accurate strip assessment and assembly reports.

New Build

- Assembly of new mechanical equipment to engineering drawings and Howden standards.

Balancing and Alignment

- Dynamic balancing of rotating equipment.

- Alignment of mechanical components and machines.

General Machining

- Machining of parts to modify or manufacture as part of overhaul and balancing works. Manual mill and lathe.


- Undertake servicing in terms of customer planned maintenance contracts, check equipment, carry out required maintenance and produce a report of work done in order to comply with the Service Level Agreement.


- Carry out detailed machinery analysis, interpret results and liaise with Howden Engineering Department on how to most efficiently resolve customer problems.

Legal, Health & Safety & Other

- Take all reasonable care for own personal health and safety, as well as for that of everyone who may be affected by your actions in your workplace.

- Liaise and co-operate with company management with regards to the current health and safety legislation and obligations within the location and area where you performing your duties.

What do you need to bring?

You are a qualified Fitter and Machinist Tradesperson, with a dogman or riggers qualification, and a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience of working with rotating assemblies in an industrial/mining/power station environment.

You have demonstrated experience in overhauling rotating equipment, and are competent in balancing small and large rotating assemblies and with shaft alignment. You can confidently find solutions to complex machinery problems.

With your excellent verbal and written communication skills you are comfortable and confident in dealing with customers, often in difficult situations, when they are concerned about production downtime.

You possess a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude and are solutions oriented in all situations. You demonstrate excellent report writing skills, with the ability to document jobs and clearly articulate problems and recommendations. Your safety mindset is front and foremost, always.

The following would also be highly regarded:

- Experience overhauling fans, compressors and turbines.

- Specialized knowledge in rotating machine equipment.

- Experience working on mine sites, at power stations and general industrial sites.

- Welding qualifications.

- Formal training in HSE practices.

- First aid certificate.

This role may involve some travel (primarily in Australia and South East Asia) to work on sites, often at very short notice.
