Job Description

Electorate/Research Officer: Part Time (. to h/w)

Initial -month contract with a possibility of extension/Term of Member role.

Applications are invited for the above position at the Electorate Office of Jessica Shaw MLA, based in Ellenbrook.

The occupant of the position will be required to respond to inquiries and provide information and assistance to constituents and local community groups; liaise with Government departments and other organisations; prepare and coordinate correspondence; perform administrative tasks; and attend and assist in organising functions, meetings and community events.

The primary focus of this role will be on assisting the Member to support constituents and local community groups, but may require research and the collation of information to support the Member’s parliamentary duties. Work hours are flexible, but given the significant community focus of the role, work will occasionally be required outside of business hours. This is a part-time temporary contract, with the potential to be extended to the Term of the Member for the right person.

Essential Selection Criteria

• Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing with complex and difficult situations and matters of a confidential nature.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently within a small team, and exercise initiative in dealing with difficult situations.

• Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and schedule work to ensure the completion of tasks to meet deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to respond to rapid changes and expectations on work routines.

• Strong research, writing and analytical skills with an ability to deliver information in a written document.

• A deep commitment to helping people and building community.

• A Class-C drivers licence and your own means of transport.


• Ability to understand the impact and implications of issues and problems which arise in the constituency and able to consider the feelings and needs of all parties involved.

• Experience with community, sporting or not-for-profit groups, either through membership, volunteering or employment.

• Familiarity with the electorate of Swan Hills.

• Knowledge of Government and Parliamentary procedures.
