Who we are looking for?

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for PSL1/2 Gym Instructor/Receptionist positions within the Health and Recreation Centre (HRC), Corporate Operations Branch.

This is a unique opportunity to work within the Health and Recreation Centre at Australian Parliament House, the meeting place of our nation and one of our nation’s most important buildings. 

The HRC provides fitness services to over 600 members, including Parliamentarians. The Centre offers a variety of cardio and weight training equipment, a range of group fitness classes and develops tailored individual fitness programs to help clients meet their goals. Additional facilities include a swimming pool, squash courts, spa,

and sauna/steam room and access to outdoor tennis courts, playing fields and multipurpose courts.

The Gym Instructor will be responsible for reception duties, supervision of the gym and pool areas and the delivery of regular group fitness classes which includes the clear communication of safe instructions and quality exercise techniques. These roles will be undertaken while for upholding a high level of customer service and maintaining a functional, clean and safe environment for all HRC users.

The successful candidate will have excellent presentation skills, be able to effectively work in a small team and a be able to deliver a high standard of customer service. They must also have strong communication skills and a professional approach when providing advice and support to a diverse clientele.

The range of physical duties required to undertake this role include; squatting, bending, twisting, reaching and stretching. Successful candidates must be available to work a range of shifts between the hours of 6.00am to 8.00pm.

Please Note: This recruitment process will be used to fill current casual and non-ongoing vacancies. Candidates successfully placed on the merit pool may be offered future roles within 12 months of the Gazettal date. Should a position become ongoing then the established merit pool may be used to fill the vacancy on an ongoing basis.

Eligibility and/or Job Specific Requirements

Possession of, or the ability to acquire within an agreed timeframe, the following qualifications and registrations:

- Certificate III in Fitness (or equivalent)

- Fitness Australia Registration

- First Aid Certificate

- Bronze Medallion (pool lifesaving)

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the health and fitness industry including individual and group exercise program delivery.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.
