- Position Description

The Division of Respiratory Medicine within the Department of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for a full-time clinician-teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is based at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Mary’s Hospital Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Job Duties

As a Clinician-Teacher, the duties will include 50-70% clinical activity, 15-25% teaching, and 5-25% of research and/or administration. Clinical duties will include the following respiratory clinical services: bronchoscopy, consult service, service at the General Respiratory Outpatient Clinic, and pulmonary function testing. They will share in evening and weekend on-call duties. The incumbent is expected to develop and promote clinical innovation in the Respiratory Division. Applicants will be expected to contribute to clinical research and quality improvement activities.

The candidate is also expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (teaching and supervision of clinical trainees and graduate students and involvement in academic and administrative committees) and will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in these activities. McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty training in Respiratory Medicine, be Royal College certified (or equivalent) and hold or be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec. At least one additional year of clinical and/or research training is required, in an area relevant to the practice of respiratory medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre.

Candidates should have strong interpersonal and leadership skills and must be fluent in English with a working knowledge of French.
