Delivers high quality, evidence based clinical psychology services to consumers with complex eating disorders within the acute mental health unit at Metro North – Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

About the Role

- As a member of the multidisciplinary team, deliver contemporary high level clinical psychology services that are based on valid and reliable evidence, are in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, and performed with a high degree of independence. This includes the:

- Provision of high level assessment, treatment, risk management, case co-ordination and discharge facilitation to consumers and their families/carers who present to an acute inpatient service due to severe and complex mental health problems.

- Provision of psychological screening and assessment (including the use of specialised psychological measures such as self-report rating scales, personality inventories, intellectual, cognitive and capacity assessment) to assist with diagnosis, formulation and treatment.

-  Within an acute setting, deliver brief evidence based interventions for consumers with complex eating disorders and their families, including the development and provision of individual and group based therapeutic programs (for example utilising frameworks related to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – Enhanced for Eating Disorders, Specialist Supportive Clinical Management, Family Based Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

- Utilise effective communication skills to optimise clinical outcomes and work cooperatively and effectively with consumers and carers; the multidisciplinary team; other Hospital and Health Services including other mental health services; government and non-government support agencies, General Practitioners, and Private Practitioners.

- Provide high level consultation and clinical advice to the multidisciplinary team, operational managers, public and private clinicians, to assist them to undertake assessment and management of consumers complex mental health disorders and to provide support to their carers. This includes contributing to the development of treatment and discharge plans and prioritising and developing service provision to ensure optimal health outcomes for consumers.
