About the Role

Monash Genetics has one position on offer for an advanced trainees in clinical genetics in 2022. The successful applicant will train in a clinical service offering general, cancer, prenatal and subspecialty/multidisciplinary genetics clinics. Our clinical service is well integrated with Genetics and Genomics Laboratories on site and at VCGS. Subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinics offered include Neurogenetics, Cardiac Genetics, Bone Dysplasia, Deafness, Skin Genetics, Renal Genetics, Cleft Palate,

Familial Cancer Genetics and Thalassaemia & Haemophilia. This is an exciting opportunity to gain broad exposure and training in the field of clinical genetics, research and importantly, experience in genomics through clinical diagnostic testing, and research flagship projects, as well as in house genomic curation training. Training can be tailored to individual training needs depending on college requirements and the candidate’s areas of interest. Potential research projects in genetics/genomics can be created in discussion with the successful applicant and MGHA / AGHA. Further information about the Roles

The successful candidate will report to the Heads of Department of General Genetics and Familial Cancer Unit, as well as to Unit Managers, and Consultants. The trainee will be responsible for 3 clinics per week (either 1 FCC clinic and 2 General Clinics – or 3 General clinics with consultant supervision, depending on the role), as well as seeing all ward consultations with a consultant. Academic meetings and teaching opportunities exist in-house and through Friday morning meetings at VCGS. Trainees will receive close mentoring with consultants in the department.

About You

The successful candidate will be academically inclined, motivated, and hard working. An interest in research is a must. Good organisational skills will be essential to manage the time pressures of the job and college training requirements.

What you need:

Current registrations with AHPRA and working with children's check

Medical Degree & completion of basic physician/paediatrician training through the RACP (i.e. Passed or currently sitting the written and clinical exams of the college and be eligible to commence advanced physician/paediatrician training in 2021)

Previous experience in clinical genetics is a plus and preference will be given to candidates who are already in a clinical genetics training program.
