The Planning & Assessment division within the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is delivering a long-term structural transformation of the planning system to offer better outcomes, certainty and public value to NSW. We are creating a modern, user-friendly and responsive planning system through better policy and regulation,

improved assessment processes and systems, improved digital solutions through e-planning, strategic planning for our regions and close collaboration with partners across local and state government, business, industry and communities. 

The NSW Government has conducted a holistic review of infrastructure funding in NSW and recently accepted all 29 recommendations from the Productivity Commission’s Review of Infrastructure Contributions in New South Wales. These recommendations represent an exciting opportunity to deliver a world class infrastructure contributions system through legislative, policy and operational reform. The Infrastructure Funding Policy team is leading the work to deliver this reformed infrastructure contributions system.

About the role 

Join our Infrastructure Funding Policy team as a Policy Officer and help support our Planning and Assessment team in developing and implementing regulatory frameworks, policy settings, and guidance materials by undertaking research and analysis and provide positive solutions.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing:

- Complete a variety of allocated policy tasks to help deliver to the NSW Government’s reforms to the infrastructure contributions system including project planning and implementation to assist in service delivery.

- Undertake qualitative and quantitative research to prepare timely reports, discussion papers, briefs and submissions to support evidence-based, ethical solutions.

- Encouraging an open communication and collaborative environment where ideas and knowledge is shared to improve policies and processes.

- Delivering competing assessments in a challenging and dynamic environment.

- Manage a range of varied responsibilities within tight and conflicting deadlines.

About you

• Degree in a relevant discipline; including 

• Knowledge of the NSW planning system is highly desirable.

• Strong communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong relationships and continuously ensure commitment to customer service.

• Take initiative to progress and deliver results to achieve individual and team goals.

• Ability to perform basic research and analysis, whilst effectively managing aspects with conflicting deadlines.

• Contribute to process improvement using critical thinking to solve problems and challenges.
