About the Role 



AboriginalEducation Officers provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students andtheir families to support improved learning, welfare and well-being outcomesfor Aboriginal students.



Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance

- First Aid Certificate or willingness toundertake First Aid training

- Administration of Medications – training to beprovided based on student needs.

- Knowledgeof and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Trainingpolicies.



Cardiff High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the city of Lake Macquarie on the land of the Awabakal People. The school draws its enrolments from the Cardiff, Garden Suburb, Hillsborough, and Macquarie Hills communities. The school has a culture of academic achievement, success in sport, and creative and performing arts.



Cardiff High School has a current enrolment of 750 students, including 110 Aboriginal students and 48 support class students. The school FOEI is 112. The school curriculum caters to a wide variety of interests and needs, with a growing number of students accessing tertiary study and local-industry post-school pathways.



Cardiff High School has a strong relationship with the Kirinari Hostel, with many residents currently and historically attending Cardiff High School. 



Cardiff High School has a strong collaboration with the P&C;, AECG, and the Cardiff Community of Schools.



Specific Selection Criteria

- Understandingof the needs of Aboriginal students.

- Effectiveoral and written communication skills

- Knowledgeof Aboriginal communities and cultures.

- Abilityto interact with Aboriginal students and parents.

- Experienceworking as part of a team.

- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community
