Walgett Community College-High School is located approximately 280km north of Dubbo.
Walgett has a population of approximately 2300 and is situated in a remote, rural context. Student enrolment Year 7-12 is 138 students, including approximately 97% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The school is part of the Connected Communities strategy and is committed to providing a broad, high quality education for all students through a diverse, relevant curriculum with a focus on student and community engagement. The school is well resourced including two trade training centres. There is a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes. Demonstrated capacity to provide inspirational and innovative educational leadership in a time of rapid educational change that will drive improvement through embedding a whole school approach to a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement in teaching and learning to the enhancement of educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and students in rural and remote communities.
Demonstrated strong commitment to promote the school within the community and to establish productive partnerships through consultation and collaboration with parents, educational stakeholders, Elders, AECG, colleagues and the wider community that will drive improvement for a diverse range of students, including Aboriginal.
Demonstrated capacity to work as a member of the school’s executive team to develop and assess data sets that supports both internal school mile-stoning of the SIP, self-assessment and external validation.
Proven ability to lead and inspire professional learning and targeted leadership development that builds the capacity of staff to deliver on student academic achievement, wellbeing and whole school improvement.
Proven performance in a complex setting and demonstrated capacity as a decisive, collaborative, open, well organised, approachable and highly visible leader that supports and fosters genuine relationships with the whole school community including the primary campus to deliver excellence in outcomes for students across a range of interests and abilities to ensure that every student is known, cared for and valued as a person and a learner.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
